Sunday 12 September: Art Gallery Louisiana
After breakfast we take the S train into the central station and board another train to the Art Gallery Louisiana about 30 minutes up the coast. A short walk and we reach the gates at opening time. An impressive Sculpture Garden including Henry Moore, Roy Lichtenstein and Joan Miró which we wander round with a fine backdrop of the sea and Sweden across the water beyond. Other inside exhibitions are rather more challenging: Dorothy Iannone is a collection of cartoon like erotica and Alex Da Corte a colourful mix of sculptures, installations and videos that were frankly pretty weird! Our favourite was a mirrored light display with infinite reflections.
We while away a couple of hours most enjoyably and then head back to Copenhagen. We go to the Torvehalferne Foodhall where we have a delicious open sandwich (smørrebrod) with shrimps and salmon. Then a coffee at the Coffee Collective and a wander around the stalls of amazing looking cheeses, fish, meat, olive oils and other delicacies. We visit a few more Danish shops and take another look at the “black diamond” library building, this time from dry land. Bus and train back to base for a rest. We are going out for a meal this evening to Vaekst, a restaurant recommendation from Izzie and Luke.
